Engineering Your Business for Profit
Step 1 - Functional Operational Chart
At Analytical Business Consulting, we meticulously diagram each aspect of the business operation, typically starting from the initial customer contact, whether through marketing or sales. We then track the customer's journey from their first interaction, through the sales process, all the way to the final delivery of goods or services. This comprehensive mapping allows us to conduct a candid assessment of each friction point within the business operation.
This thorough process generates extensive discussions among participants and can be tailored to focus on specific areas of responsibility within the company, such as the marketing team, production team, or sales team. Each team spends dedicated time with us to walk through their customer handling processes in detail.
The outcome of this exercise is a detailed list of problems and friction points currently affecting both the company and its customers. This analysis leads to the next critical step in our process, which we call the "Problem Wall."
Step 2 - The Problem Wall
The "Problem Wall" is a comprehensive compilation of all the issues, problems, and friction points identified during the initial functional organizational assessment. This extensive list is typically divided into various departments, allowing each to address their specific challenges over time.
The key aspect of this process is determining the severity and frequency of each problem. We evaluate the magnitude by asking how often a problem occurs. Infrequent issues may be lower priority, while recurring problems are prioritized for immediate resolution. Similarly, problems that significantly impact the customer are addressed first.
The Problem Wall enables a transparent and thorough disclosure of all identified issues, friction points, and problems, along with their prioritization for resolution.
Step 3 - Solution wall
The "Solutions Wall" is a pivotal component in our process, ensuring that every solution is accompanied by a clear, actionable plan. Identifying problems and understanding potential solutions are just the beginning; the Solutions Wall outlines the specific steps needed to achieve these solutions.
This wall not only details the process for each solution but also highlights the associated costs and benefits. By developing a cost-benefit analysis for each solution, business owners can prioritize which issues to address first. Some problems may have simple, low-cost solutions with minimal impact, while others might be complex and costly but significantly enhance the company's profitability.
Prioritizing these high-impact problems is crucial, and the Solutions Wall helps focus the owner's efforts on the most critical issues. This structured approach ensures that decision-making is informed, strategic, and aligned with the company's overall goals.
